2008 Derby OCD Conference Review

Review by Sara Padwick

OCD-UK’s 2008 conference took place on Saturday 18th October 2008 at The Riverside Centre in Derby, where some 160 people commuted from across the UK to attend. It was a chance for everyone involved with OCD UK to celebrate what the charity has achieved this year, as well as benefiting from the experience of expert speakers.

The day was made up of talks by Clinical Psychologists Professor Paul Salkovskis and Dr Victoria Bream Oldfield, as well as CBT therapist, Christine Wilding.

The sufferer’s perspective was covered when Sally and Neil spoke about their life with OCD, and there were performances from Sarah reading her OCD poetry, and Karley and Suki singing – very powerful and moving for many watching.

It was inspiring to see how people with OCD can be so creative, and those who have achieved recovery like Sally who are able to live a virtually‘normal’ life, supported by their family and friends.

The atmosphere throughout the day was very friendly and welcoming, and during the breaks website forum users were able to finally meet up, perhaps after years of chatting online!
