The superb moving OCD illustrations on the banner at the top of this website were the work of OCD and BDD sufferer, Jo Garey. In her own words...........

I developed OCD when I was 18 years old after suffering from BDD the previous year. Since, I have used Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and medication to treat it I have found both very helpful. I still have periods when my OCD is not a problem and other times when I find it hard. At the moment it is ok, somewhere in the middle.
I imagine that I will always have OCD, but will find it manageable with help from CBT. My partner, family and friends are all very supportive and this helps me when I am feeling low. I think the Bulletin Board is great as I live in a rather quiet part of the country and it feels good to be able talk to others with similar feelings.
The reason I wanted to produce illustrations for the OCD-UK website is that I wanted to help others with OCD, BDD and similar anxiety disorders in some way. I feel such empathy and compassion for all that suffer from OCD and am pleased that I was able to give something to the cause of promoting awareness and recovery for OCD sufferers. I have always avoided illustrating the subject of OCD as I felt I may dwell on it and even stir it up in myself but I have found it a cathartic experience. I have learnt to accept OCD as part of my life rather than hating it.
My illustration represents various types of obsessions and compulsions,
showing the repetitive nature of OCD as the images are repeated.
