Giving through your payroll

Cash - every penny will help usPayroll Giving (Give As You Earn) is a tax-free way of giving regularly to OCD-UK, making it one of the most efficient ways of supporting us.

Each time you are paid, a donation is deducted by your Payroll Department before tax is calculated. Because it is calculated before tax your donation is cheaper than you think!

If you want to pledge £10 a month, it could actually only cost you £7.80! Confused? Read on......

As you can see from the example above if you give us £10 every month, and you pay the basic rate of tax, your donation will cost you £7.80. We will still receive the full £10 because the taxman has to make up the difference. And if you are a higher rate taxpayer then it will cost you even less to donate £10 to OCD-UK.

What is donating through your payroll?
It is often referred to as 'Give As You Earn', and is a tax efficient way of giving directly from your pay. The money comes out of your salary before it is taxed.

So why give from your salary? Making a monthly donation through your payroll is one of the most cost-effective ways of helping OCD-UK. Giving to us before you are taxed means the gift is worth more, because the money you would have given to the Inland Revenue comes to us instead.

How is it worked out? Did you know that if you donate £10 a month to the OCD-UK from your wages that your gift will only cost you £7.80? The Inland Revenue gives us the extra £2.20! (At the basic rate of taxation)

How do I set a payment up? Making a monthly donation through your salary is simple to organise. Ask your payroll department whether they offer a Payroll Giving scheme. If they do, ask for a charity nomination form. Once you've completed this, it will be processed by your company's Payroll Giving Agency and your donations will begin to be deducted from your monthly salary.

Can I stop at any time? Yes. Simply inform your payroll department and they will stop your donations the following day. Please also let OCD-UK know about this, so that we can keep our records up-to-date.

What if my company doesn't yet have a payroll scheme? Don't worry, they are simple to set up. We suggest you talk to your HR or Payroll department to arrange a scheme that allows you to donate through your salary.
