Support Groups

One of the biggest comforts to a sufferer is knowing that they are not alone. Whilst a sufferer may talk to family or friends they often know that deep down the person they are talking to does not truly understand.

Self help and support groups are independent groups run and attended by people affected by OCD. They provide the opportunity for people living with it to share experiences and support one another.

The goal of a support group is to create a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere where members can talk about OCD without embarrassment as well as give support and encouragement to each other. A support group is a place for people to come together to share coping strategies, discuss feelings, and make new friends.

Most support groups meet once a month and attendance is open.

OCD-UK does not run any support group but we are fully committed to supporting individuals or groups who wish to start a new OCD Support Group for sufferers, carers or both. We will also do what we can to help and support those already running a Support Group. Since August 2004 we have financially assisted 3 support groups to start/continue and been fundamental in the startup of 2 other groups.

All groups listed within these pages are run completely independent of OCD-UK.

If you are interested in starting up a support group, contact us for more information about how we can help including promotion of the group, financial support and an ocd-uk subdomain.... i.e. http://nottingham.ocduk.org

If you run a support group and wish to change your entry, please email us.
