OCD-UK is the leading national charity, independently working with and for people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
OCD-UK aims to improve awareness of the condition both amongst the general public and within the medical community, with the long term aim of campaigning to ensure that every sufferer receives the quality of treatment they deserve. We also facilitate a safe environment for people affected by OCD to communicate with each other and provide mutual understanding and support.
Our mission statement is simply:
A brief history of OCD-UK
OCD-UK was founded in November 2003 by two OCD sufferers, former IT consultant
Ashley Fulwood and businessman Steve Sharpe. Both felt that OCD was still
not widely recognised and that a more proactive approach was needed to bring the problems faced by people suffering with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder into the public spotlight. OCD-UK became an officially registered
charity on 14th April 2004.
How we are run
We are managed by an executive management committee whose members are our trustees. They serve in a voluntary capacity but have ultimate responsibility in law for the charity, its assets and activities.Their role is to guide, advise and support the Chief Executive as he implements the charity's strategic vision.
They are appointed because of their commitment to raising awareness of OCD and their experience and skills which enable them to undertake the responsibilities of trusteeship of OCD-UK.
