Derby Parent Workshop Friday 25th November 2022

Our Derby parents workshop will take place at the Jurys Inn.

We are inviting parents to attend a FREE full day workshop in Derby to help them better understand Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The educational workshop will include the following:

  • What is OCD
  • How OCD is treated
  • Pathways to access treatment
  • What parents can do to help

The delivering of this workshop will send parents away better educated, informed and empowered to understand their child’s OCD. The project is funded for parents with children aged 5-18 (CAMHS age) suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Please note that the project hosts are not medical professionals and will not be offering therapeutic advice. The project is hosted by service users who have an in depth understanding of OCD, and the aim of this workshop is to offer relevant and helpful information to restore hope for a recovery focused future.

Who is this workshop for?

The workshops are specifically for parents of children and young people between the ages of 5-18 (Child & Adolescent mental health service ages), who are suffering because of OCD. The workshop is supportive to parents on a waiting list for CAMHS services, this means some children may not have had a formal diagnosis of OCD yet. The workshops are not suitable for children or young people to attend.

Our workshops are designed to offer education and hope in a supportive and non judgemental environment. We as service users are aware of the difficulties families experience when a loved one is suffering because of OCD, and we hope by the end of the workshop that parents feel heard, understood and better equipped for the road to recovery. The workshops are small groups of 8-12 people, to allow the sessions to be interactive with time for questions.

Due to limited place availability and funding purposes, the workshops are only for parents or the primary caregiver of children and young people with OCD. Therefore, we are sadly unable to offer places at this time to the following:

  • Grandparents (unless primary caregiver)
  • Teachers
  • Support Workers
  • CAMHS workers or health professionals
  • Children / siblings
