2021 Virtual OCD-UK Conference - Welcome to Hotel OCD-UK, flying the flag for recovery!

Saturday post conference stretch, relax and refresh

Broadcast live on Saturday 27th November 2021
Host
Jeanette Evans, is a PE teacher and gym instructor.

Presentation subject

Using a combination of movements based around Pilates, Yoga and static and dynamic stretching, this calming, gently flowing session is designed to refocus yourself with your body. The session, suitable for beginners, should leave you feeling relaxed throughout your whole body, giving your mind time to focus on yourself, your posture and your movements from top to toe. I have designed this pattern of movement to allow our hard working OCD brains something else to focus on and time to refresh and find some peace.

About the speaker

My name is Jeanette and I have been living with OCD and severe anxiety since the age of 11/12 years old. I was hospitalised aged 18 for a month in a mixed adult ward. I have been in a very long battle with OCD for most of my life, have experienced frustrations in trying to get the CBT I needed and still need, but have been blessed by getting treatment with the fantastic Prof Paul Salkovskis two years ago. I keep fighting day by day.

I completed my BSc (Hons) Sports Studies with Business Studies degree in 2002, continued to study at a Post Graduate level to obtain a PG Cert in Applied Sport and Exercise Science and then completed my PGCE In Physical Education in 2004. I have taught Physical Education for 16 years now, where I have been a head of department for nine of those years. I am also a qualified gym instructor, a first aid instructor and this summer I have qualified as a mental health first aid instructor, so I can run courses to qualify people and spread the accurate facts about mental health! I love the coast and spend as many weeks and weekends of the year as possible in north Devon, where I surf, kayak, run on the beach and walk around the beautiful coastlines! I have been horse-riding for over thirty years and playing netball for a very similar length of time! I also love dancing and art. I love dogs and they are such amazing therapy for me. I have a Golden Retriever who is a very cheeky monkey but who is always at my side when I need her.

OCD-UK have literally saved my life in the past and is always somewhere I know I can turn to. These sessions are hopefully a small way that I can give something very small back to the OCD community.

We know that right now we are all living through difficult times financially, and it’s for that reason we have chosen to make our conference free access this year. Whilst the conference is free access, the charity does still have to pay Zoom and Vimeo license fees which power our online conference, so if you are in a position to make a donation of any amount, we would be incredibly grateful. It is only through donations, and the participation of our supporters fundraising activities that OCD-UK can survive, so we remain incredibly grateful for your consideration.
