What I wished my loved ones knew

A poem by Amrita

I want you to know,

I am trying my best,

to fight the things,

that OCD tests.

I want you to know,

I do not mean to,

upset anyone,

or cause a fuss when I’m around you.

I want you to know,

I wish it was over,

as much as you do,

let hope keep us all together.

I want you to know,

I am hopeful for the future however near

I try every day,

to ignore it and stay strong through the fear.

It’s hateful words,

telling me,

I’ve done something wrong,

It even bothers me when I’m making a cup of tea.

I understand it is hard,

for everyone around me,

and I want you to know,

I will fight till it’s gone.

'It is not helpful for the media to portray OCD as a personality quirk, as this disguises the effect it has on people of all ages and their families. OCD isn’t part of me, nor will it ever be. It’s something I have to fight' - Amrita
